Renato worked on compliance and anti-corruption cases in Brazil until May 2024 for the Office of the Comptroller General, before joining Maeda, Ayres & Sarubbi at the end of 2024. His practice includes negotiating leniency agreements and preparing investigations involving Brazilian and foreign multinationals. He was the Brazilian government’s point of contact for resolving cases in coordination with authorities in the United States, Switzerland and other countries.

His experience includes finding pragmatic solutions to resolve corruption and fraud cases globally, with compensation for payments of fines made in several countries and coordination for global negotiations and resolution of administrative liability procedures.

Among the many projects he has implemented, he was responsible for getting the federal government and civil society to approve new elements for assessment of integrity programs, such as preventing harassment and discrimination and promoting environmental and social responsibility in companies. He also cooperated part in developing guides and procedures both in Brazil and abroad on assessing the effectiveness of compliance programs and compliance in multinationals. He has worked on the interaction with the criminal and administrative improbity aspects of the misconducts of the Anti-Corruption Law.

Renato has a solid academic background in comparative anti-corruption law, as well as being an expert evaluator of other countries’ anti-corruption systems at the OECD. He teaches master’s courses at the Universidad de Salamanca, Spain, on the subjects of transnational compliance, multi-jurisdictional case resolution and corporate liability.

Renato is a licensed lawyer in Brazil.
